What do you think

My first homework from last 1 month of vacations is to conduct a survey on ‘Why to learn French?‘ . Millions of languages are spoken around globe but why are German and French are the two most desirable second language for the masses?
Why do the MNC’s while recruiting are highly impressed when the languages spoken section of the resume reads ‘French’ beside English and Hindi. As engineers why our career prospects are enhanced by being fluent in French?
What I am asking is a personal perception not based on any data available on Wikipedia or Google but why people like u or me prefer to learn French more than Spanish, Japanese or any other language.

Please enlighten me with your valuable views.

P.S. – The earlier the reply the merrier. (I have a deadline of 15 hrs)

  1. German because Germans are still covered powerful in Europe and is spoken in Germany, Austria and Switzerland (all countries desirable for Indians fed on romantic songs of Yash Chopra and Karan Johar)! :)

French because it is also national language of countries like Madagascar, Cameroun, Congo, Belgium, Luxembourg, and one of the official language of U.N.

In Italy, where I live, more persons today want to learn Hindi and Chinese, because of perceptions of their respective countries’ (India and China) growing economic might. So I think that economic and cultural power of countries influences the languages people want to learn.

    • well i agree with you but if its about economic and cultural powers then why not japanese and chinese which are also fast growing economies?
